Financial Accountant
We are looking for a Financial Accountant to support our growing team in Krakow office.
The Financial Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Finance function at MDPI by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely month-end closings, compliance with local accounting standards and supporting global financial reporting. The role focuses on financial accounting, reconciliations, VAT compliance, and financial process improvements. As a Financial Accountant, you will collaborate closely with the global finance team and external accounting providers.
This is a full-time, in-office and entry level position based in our Krakow office.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Maintain complete and accurate bookkeeping in line with Polish GAAP and internal group accounting policies.
- Coordinate with the external accounting company to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
- Review and verify reports prepared by the external accounting firm for accuracy and completeness before submitting them to the MDPI global finance managers for approval.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure correct VAT treatment of transactions and support quarterly VAT filings and other statutory reporting.
- Support the preparation of audit schedules and liaise with auditors during internal and external audits.
- Assist in payroll data verification in cooperation with the Payroll Specialist.
- Identify any missing invoices and follow up with relevant departments or vendors.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly cost files, transfer files and monthly internal transfer invoices.
- Maintain regular communication with accounting to ensure T&E expenses are booked in accordance with the internal cost file.
- Work closely with the Office Manager and the local Finance team to optimize financial processes and support budgeting activities.
- Gradually take over internal management of accounting processes, including bookkeeping, invoice processing, VAT reporting and general ledger reconciliations.
Ad-hoc financial tasks which may be given from time to time.
Requirements
- Educational background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Statistics, Business Economics, Quantitative Finance, or equivalent.
- General Work Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international environment.
- Knowledge of Polish accounting standards, VAT regulations and experience working with external accounting providers.
- Skills: Strong analytical thinking, a structured approach to work, experience with Polish accounting systems (such as Enova365, or similar is a plus), advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), excellent attention to detail
- Good communication skills in English and Polish (written and spoken).
- Polish accounting certification (or professional course) is a plus.
