The English Editing Department is integral to this mission, ensuring that all of MDPI’s manuscripts are published with clarity, consistency, and grammatical accuracy.
The Role: English Editor
We are looking for meticulous and dedicated individuals with a strong grasp of the English language and the varied nuances of academic writing to support scholars in publishing their research. English Editors support academic research by editing the language of peer-reviewed papers to publication standards.
Successful applicants undergo a probation period in which in-house training is provided by an experienced editor, after which there are opportunities to diversify the role and gain expertise in new areas.
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Krakow, Poland. The starting salary is 9000 PLN per month, increasing by 5% for non-PhD holders or 10% for PhD holders after successful completion of the contractual period.
Responsibilities
- Edit scholarly articles spanning a wide array of subject matter submitted to MDPI’s journal to a publication-ready standard.
- Apply knowledge of the English language and the context of the manuscript to make the English clear, consistent, and grammatically correct, communicating the author’s message without changing their voice unnecessarily.
- Ensure manuscripts align with MDPI’s house rules.
- Meet tight deadlines and hit targets with a high degree of consistency.
- Take on additional roles, such as training colleagues both within and outside of the department and editing corporate material.
Experience and Skills
Essential criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree in any subject.
- Native English speaker.
- Experience in editing, translating, or publishing.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an international team.
- Valid permit to work in Poland.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Professional experience in academic research or publishing.
- A master’s, PhD, or equivalent qualification.
- Familiarity with LaTeX.
- Experience working in an office environment.

Candidates must submit their CV and cover letter. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and asked to complete two editing tests. If successful, candidates will be invited to an interview, which is the final stage of the application process.
